What's New for the 2019 Toyota GR Supra?

After a 21-year hiatus, the Toyota Supra is back, and it’s glorious! The 2020 Toyota GR Supra was debuted at the Detroit Auto Show in 2019, and it was clear back then that a new beginning was on the horizon for this sports car.

The 2020 Toyota GR Supra was inspired by the phenomenal FT-1 Concept, and it’s a two-seater that’s available in a 3.0 and 3.0 Premium version, as well as a Launch Edition. When it comes to styling and mechanical configuration, this fifth-generation Supra is very much connected to its predecessors.

When you pop open the hood of the 2020 Toyota GR Supra, you’ll find a turbocharged twin-scroll 3.0-liter inline-six that makes 365 lb-ft of torque and 335 horsepower. The power of this vehicle is focused on the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox that has paddle shifters. It has a 0 to 60 mph that takes about 4.1 seconds. In fact, the top speed is 155 mph.

It’s not by chance that the engine response is enhanced by the intake valve lift system and the torque is strong from low engine speeds. As it turns out, the development of the 2020 Toyota GR Supra was influenced by Gazoo Racing in Japan. In fact, this car was tested by Akio Toyoda, a highly regarded and accomplished driver. Toyoda took it for a spin on the world-class circuits, including the Nurburgring.

As the driver, you’ll have the option of two driving modes; Sport and Normal. If you choose the Sport mode, the stability control systems are reduced and there’s a sharper throttle. You’ll also experience more enhanced steering and faster shifts. The 2020 Toyota GR Supra contains a standard active differential that leverages multiplate clutches to control lateral torque. There is an adaptive suspension and launch control that is standard with this vehicle.

One of the reasons why the 2020 Toyota GR Supra is so exciting is because it’s great for everyday driving, but it can serve as an amazing track car. It has a low center of gravity and high structural rigidity. It also controls torque distribution during acceleration and braking.

The interior of the 2020 Toyota GR Supra is focused on the driver, especially as it relates to the color display and audio controls. There’s also an optional navigation system that accommodates the driver. It has Alcantara power seats that are trimmed in leather and heated in the 3.0 Premium version. The touchscreen is 6.5 inches, but 8.8 inches in the Premium version, which boasts a wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, a rotary touch controller and a 12-speaker audio system.

The bold exterior of the 2020 Toyota GR Supra is curvy and has a large rear wing with a double bubble roof and front LED headlights.
